There are three main pieces of hardware required to run the CancerHelp software; a computer, a printer, and a touchscreen monitor (see "Order CancerHelp" for more information on obtaining a monitor).
One of the most important functions of CancerHelp is allowing users to print materials for later review. Because of print intensive operation, CancerHelp requires a dedicated printer connected directly to the CancerHelp computer. CancerHelp will not print over a network.
CancerHelp requires a dedicated personal computer running Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional (CancerHelp will work on Windows 98 but without the Easy Web Browser). Read more about specific cpu requirements.
With the Easy Web Browser as an optional feature, subscribers may wish to hook the CancerHelp computer up to the Internet. This will require additional hardware.

Space
At minimum, CancerHelp requires the space needed to hold a monitor, computer, and printer. A small desk or table is sufficient although many subscribers have integrated the CancerHelp system into their space utilizing a variety of creative strategies. It has been our experience that CancerHelp systems placed in higher traffic, public areas like waiting rooms and clinic/hospital lobbies receive the highest usage.
Role of Cancer Patient Education Staff at Subscribing Facilities
There are several ways that Patient Education Staff can help to support the CancerHelp program and the CancerHelp Institute has developed tools to help you.
Install the complete monthly updates that come via CD-ROM.
Promote CancerHelp to patients and family members. The CancerHelp Institute will provide you with promotional posters and flyers to inform patients of your new resource. The posters and flyers can be customized to include your facility name and the location of the CancerHelp touchscreen system.
Install On-screen screen saver files (that have been created for you by the CancerHelp Institute). These screen savers can be customized with your facility name and logo and used to advertise your patient education programs and support groups.
Train your staff about CancerHelp. Staff need to be educated about the CancerHelp program through regular inservices. We support your staff training by providing you with special inservice hand-outs and a PowerPoint presentation. Your staff are often the first place that patients go with their questions. When your staff is knowledgable about CancerHelp they can refer patients to CancerHelp to get the information they need.
Utilize your volunteer program. Many CancerHelp subscribers have made use of their existing facility volunteer program or started a new program. Volunteers can help introduce patients to the program while in waiting rooms. They can help with doing the monthly updates. They can even help with promotion efforts.
